The MACC Attack Bucket Brigade
9/18/2009
Bucket Brigade begins
It's another macc attack! Macc and Pacha (People's Action Committee for Healthy Air - PG) are putting their attention to empowering citizens to see if we can push for improvements to our air. With the expertise and assistance of Global Community Monitor, a non-profit agency based in California, Millar Addition neighbours will be taking samples of air during bad episodes, which often occur in the middle of the night or in early morning. These samples will be analyzed and will tell us exactly what is in the bad air.
Volunteers have gone through training and will be conducting tests from this point forward. At a recent public meeting people identified the odors they often notice, and also gave some idea of the effects of these odors, including headaches and nausea, asthmatic attacks, sore eyes and nose bleeds. Clearly, things must change.
